Braces treatment with your Long Beach braces expert

Before initiating your braces treatment, our skilled orthodontists—Dr. Joel Brodsky and Dr. Charles Brodsky—will gather essential data including digital x-rays, photographs, and a dental mold of your mouth. This information is crucial for crafting a personalized treatment strategy tailored to your specific orthodontic requirements. It helps us determine the precise placement of your brackets and the necessary tooth movements for optimal alignment.

After the brackets are securely affixed, a specialized wire is threaded through them to exert targeted pressure on the teeth that need repositioning. This is part of a technique known as remodeling, which involves subtle changes in the bone structure surrounding the tooth roots. When the braces apply pressure to a tooth, specific cells known as osteoblasts and osteoclasts form around its root. In conjunction with the wire, this generates a negative pressure on one side of the tooth, leading to bone removal. On the opposite side, new bone forms, facilitating the gradual movement of the tooth into its ideal position.

It's essential to maintain constant pressure on the teeth for effective remodeling. Once the braces are taken off, teeth may naturally start to revert to their original positions. To counteract this tendency and maintain your newly aligned smile, regular use of a retainer is highly recommended.

What your Long Beach braces expert offers

Did you know that today’s braces are better than ever? All of our treatment options are excellent and can correct a variety of oral issues, from simple to complex. Traditional metal braces often work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other treatments might, potentially shortening your overall treatment time, while also representing a cost-effective option for patients on a budget. The strength, durability, and affordability of traditional braces are a big part of why they’ve withstood the test of time and are still the top orthodontic treatment year after year.

Metal Braces

The most common type of braces is the tried-and-true traditional metal braces system. These braces work to straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires that are constructed out of high-grade stainless steel. Today’s metal braces are more comfortable and fun than ever - you have the option of choosing colored elastics to add a punch of personality to your treatment! But don’t worry, if you prefer a more subtle approach, we also offer clear or tooth-colored elastics.

Ceramic Braces

Another option for straightening your smile, ceramic braces work the same way metal braces do, but the brackets are made with a clear ceramic material instead. Ceramic braces tend to be used on the upper front teeth more often than the lower teeth. They’re very popular with our older teen and adult patients because they are such a discrete treatment option. The brackets tend to be a bit larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts, so we normally won’t recommend them for our younger patients.

You can often see visible signs of improvement relatively quickly when using traditional braces, which can help increase your confidence in both your smile and the orthodontic process!
