Your Long Beach Orthodontists
Dr. Joel Brodsky
Dr. Joel Brodsky attended UCLA and received his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1974. He then headed across the country to Rochester, New York, to study orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center - University of Rochester, earning both a certificate in orthodontics and a masters of science degree in 1976.
He has held an academic appointment at the UCLA School of Dentistry, donating time as a clinical instructor in orthodontics and overseeing student research in the field.
Dr. Brodsky strongly believes in using cutting-edge technology to create a better orthodontic experience, and has lectured on this topic at dental schools and meetings across the country. His current research centers on 3D digital imaging, the Pendulum appliance, and Invisalign® treatment.
He is also associated with the cleft palate teams at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Orthopedic Hospital Los Angeles, and Southern California Kaiser Permanente.
Dr. Charles Brodsky
Dr. Charles Brodsky attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in applied sciences. Upon graduating, he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the UOP Dental School.
Following dental school, Dr. Brodsky was ready for a change, and moved to Massachusetts to complete his orthodontics residency at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. He received a specialty certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry degree in 2005.
While training in Boston, Dr. Brodsky received extensive training and certification in Invisalign®, tissue management with lasers, as well as the placement and utilization of orthodontic mini-screw implants (TADs).
Orthodontists who train at Boston University are taught to treat the most complicated of orthodontic malocclusions, including patients who need orthognathic jaw surgery in conjunction with orthodontics. Dr. Brodsky believes technology and new techniques are able to push orthodontics to new levels, and enjoys learning and implementing new things in our practice for a better orthodontic experience overall.
Lakewood Braces
Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. The metal or ceramic brackets are attached to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics.
Through regular adjustments with our doctors, these components work together to apply gentle pressure, which will gradually move the teeth into the desired positions.
Lakewood braces are an excellent choice for correcting a number of tooth issues, from simple to complex. Because they sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options might, overall treatment time can be slightly reduced.
In addition, braces don’t require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can. This makes Lakewood braces a cost-effective orthodontic option for patients on a budget.
Lakewood Invisalign
Instead of metal or ceramic brackets and bands, the Long Beach Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into alignment. This option is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists, and is currently the top alternative to traditional braces.
Because Dr. Joel and Dr. Charles Brodsky have treated more than 800 orthodontic cases with Invisalign, they are considered ELITE Premier providers. This indicates their special experience with the Invisalign system, which most other orthodontists in the area don't have.
Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and designed to fit snugly over the patient’s teeth. The trays are virtually invisible, and are usually switched out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. This keeps the teeth moving in the right direction!
Aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment in order for them to do their job. Patients who neglect to wear the aligners as directed can have a negative impact on the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.
Invisalign is at its most efficient when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues. For certain complex cases, Invisalign may not be a viable option. A free consultation with Brodsky Orthodontics will be able to help determine your eligibility for Invisalign.
