Who is Joel F. Brodsky DDS, MS?

Dr. Joel Brodsky prides himself in not only providing clinical excellence in orthodontic treatment but also in creating lasting relationships with his patients. Dr. Brodsky has practiced exclusively in Lakewood since 1976. Because he has remained in the same neighborhood for an extensive period of time, he has gotten to treat as many as three generations of some local families. The professional yet friendly atmosphere of the office which Dr. Brodsky has created makes you feel immediately comfortable.

Dr. Brodsky is a "home grown" Southern California orthodontist. Born in Los Angeles, Dr. Brodsky attended UCLA for eight years where he first studied Engineering and then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1974. He journeyed to Rochester, New York, where he studied orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center - University of Rochester and earned both his Certificate in Orthodontics and Masters of Science degree in 1976.

While maintaining a full-time private practice he held an academic appointment at the UCLA School of Dentistry where he donated time as a clinical instructor in orthodontics and oversaw student research in the field. Dr. Brodsky believes in the incorporation of "cutting-edge technology" in his orthodontic practice and is a sought-after lecturer at dental schools and meetings across the country. His present day research involves the areas of digital imaging, the Pendulum appliance and Invisalign® treatment.

He is associated with the cleft palate teams at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Orthopedic Hospital Los Angeles and Southern California Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Brodsky finds that his most challenging and satisfying cases involve patients with craniofacial problems and/or skeletal disharmonies that require a “team” approach and/or orthognathic surgery.

Dr. Brodsky enjoys being able to provide a high level of service in a personal way. His goal is to always have the time available to treat people as individuals, with personal relationships being a top priority. He and his son are involved in every aspect of patient care, and they examine each patient at every visit. Dr. Brodsky is always available to answer your questions and keep you updated on treatment progress.

Dr. Brodsky loves his profession and his family. Dr. Brodsky currently lives in Long Beach with his wife, Edie. In his free time, he likes to spend time with his two children and finds time to tinker with computers, exercise regularly, play golf, snow ski, and travel.

Who is Dr. Charles D. Brodsky DDS, MSD?

Dr. Charles Brodsky or “Dr. Charles” as he is affectionately known to his patients and staff, proudly followed in his father’s footsteps (Dr. Joel Brodsky) who established the practice over 30 years ago. Dr. Charles continues to build on the traditions of excellence his father started. Believe it or not, he has been “working” in the office since age 5!

Dr. Charles graduated from Los Alamitos High School in 1996 where he was the captain of the water polo team and earned numerous academic and athletic honors. Following high school, he moved to Central California where he attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton. He received his Bachelors degree in Applied Sciences from UOP in 1999 after only three years. Upon graduating, he moved to San Francisco, where he attended the prestigious UOP Dental School and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2002. Dr. Charles graduated from dental school in the top 5% of his class, receiving honors that included induction into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dental equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa.

Following dental school, he journeyed to Boston, Massachusetts where he completed his residency in Orthodontics at Boston University’s School of Dental Medicine. He received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Training in Orthodontics as well as a Masters of Science in Dentistry degree in 2005. While training in Boston, Dr. Charles received extensive training and certification in Invisalign, tissue management with lasers, as well as the placement and utilization of orthodontic miniscrew implants. The orthodontic program in Boston is considered to be one of the top orthodontic residencies in the country. Dr. Charles had the privilege of being mentored by past chairman, Dr. Anthony Gianelly. Dr. Gianelly is internationally known as one of the best educators, researchers, and lecturers in orthodontics. The orthodontists who are trained at Boston University are taught to treat the most complicated of orthodontic malocclusions, including patients who need orthognathic jaw surgery in conjunction with orthodontics.

Dr. Charles Brodsky believes in delivering the highest quality care in orthodontics, guided by a dedication to utilizing the most advanced techniques and materials, and to applying the latest findings from clinical research to his practice. He believes in spending ample time throughout the consultation experience to fully educate his patients about the nature of their orthodontic problem and the treatment options available to them. His devotion to every detail of the treatment helps ensure patient satisfaction with every aspect of their orthodontic experience.

Dr. Charles Brodsky enjoys spending time with his patients, staff and family. In his free time, he enjoys improving his golf game, fishing, snow skiing, water sports, and traveling. Dr. Charles is committed to staying at the forefront of his field and does this by attending continuing education courses all over the world.
