Who Is a Candidate for Orthodontic Treatment in Lakewood?

Children, teens, and adults are all candidates for orthodontic treatment at Brodsky Orthodontics in Lakewood. Patients of all ages benefit from straighter teeth and properly aligned bites, and our team treats a wide range of cases, from mild crowding to complex bite issues requiring surgical coordination. Here's a closer look at each group.

Children (Age 7 and Up)

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this age, we can spot developing issues early. Two-phase treatment can guide jaw growth and create space for permanent teeth, often reducing the need for more extensive work later. Even if braces or clear aligners aren't needed right away, early monitoring gives us a head start.

Teenagers and Adults

The teen years remain the most common time for braces or Invisalign. Permanent teeth are in place, and jaw growth is nearly complete. Whether your teen is dealing with crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, or crossbite, we have treatments that fit their lifestyle.

More adults than ever are choosing orthodontic treatment. Clear aligners and ceramic braces make it possible to straighten teeth discreetly. If you've always wanted a straighter smile but thought you'd missed your chance, you haven't.

Complex and Surgical Cases

Some patients need surgical orthodontics to correct significant jaw misalignment. Our orthodontists work closely with oral surgeons to plan and execute these cases, using advanced imaging technology for precise results.

Not Sure If You're a Candidate?

That's exactly what your free consultation is for. We'll evaluate your specific situation and let you know what's possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lakewood Orthodontics

How much do braces cost in Lakewood?

Orthodontic costs vary based on the type of treatment, complexity of your case, and how long treatment takes. At Brodsky Orthodontics, we offer a free consultation where we'll provide a clear cost estimate with no surprises. Flexible payment plans help make treatment accessible for Lakewood families.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Treatment length depends on your specific needs. Many cases with Invisalign or braces take 12 to 24 months. More involved situations may require additional time. During your consultation at our Lakewood office, we'll give you a realistic timeline based on your individual case.

What is the difference between Invisalign and braces?

Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners that you change every one to two weeks. Traditional braces use brackets and wires attached to your teeth. Both achieve excellent results. The table below compares Invisalign and traditional braces across key factors.

Feature Invisalign Traditional Braces
Appearance Nearly invisible Visible brackets and wires
Removable Yes No
Complexity Range Mild to moderate Mild to severe
Comfort Smooth plastic aligners May cause initial bracket irritation
Avg. Treatment Time 12 to 18 months 12 to 24 months

Your Brodsky Orthodontics team will recommend the best option based on your case complexity, lifestyle, and goals.

Do you offer same-day braces?

Yes. Qualifying patients can get braces placed the same day as their free consultation. This option works well for busy families who want to minimize appointments and start treatment quickly. Ask about same-day braces when you schedule your visit.

At what age should my child see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. This doesn't mean your child will need braces right away. Early evaluation lets us monitor development and step in at the right time if needed. At Brodsky Orthodontics in Lakewood, early evaluations help us catch issues like crowding, crossbite, or jaw growth concerns before they become more complex.

Do you offer virtual consultations?

Yes! If you can't make it to our Lakewood office for your first visit, we offer virtual consultations. You'll connect with our amazing team from home, discuss your concerns, and get preliminary guidance on your treatment options.

lakewood orthodontics Dr. Charles Brodsky

Dr. Joel Brodsky attended UCLA and received his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1974. He then headed across the country to Rochester, New York, to study orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center - University of Rochester, earning both a certificate in orthodontics and a masters of science degree in 1976. He has held an academic appointment at the UCLA School of Dentistry, donating time as a clinical instructor in orthodontics and overseeing student research in the field.

Dr. Brodsky strongly believes in using cutting-edge technology to create a better orthodontic experience, and has lectured on this topic at dental schools and meetings across the country. His current research centers on 3D digital imaging, the Pendulum appliance, and Invisalign® treatment. He is also associated with the cleft palate teams at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, Orthopedic Hospital Los Angeles, and Southern California Kaiser Permanente.

Dr. Charles Brodsky attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in applied sciences. Upon graduating, he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the UOP Dental School. Following dental school, Dr. Brodsky was ready for a change, and moved to Massachusetts to complete his orthodontics residency at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine. He received a specialty certificate in orthodontics and a Master of Science in Dentistry degree in 2005.

While training in Boston, Dr. Brodsky received extensive training and certification in Invisalign®, tissue management with lasers, as well as the placement and utilization of orthodontic mini-screw implants (TADs). Orthodontists who train at Boston University are taught to treat the most complicated of orthodontic malocclusions, including patients who need orthognathic jaw surgery in conjunction with orthodontics. Dr. Brodsky believes technology and new techniques are able to push orthodontics to new levels, and enjoys learning and implementing new things in our practice for a better orthodontic experience overall.

Lakewood Braces

Did you know that traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools available? Ceramic or metal brackets are attached to your teeth, then connected by wires and tiny elastics or rubber bands. Through regular adjustments with Dr. Brodsky, these components work together to gently apply pressure, which will gradually move your teeth into the desired positions.

Lakewood braces are an excellent choice for correcting a number of tooth issues, from simple and complex. Traditional braces can sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options might, and this can shorten your overall treatment time. In addition, braces don't require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can. This makes Lakewood braces a cost-effective orthodontic option for patients on a budget.

Lakewood Invisalign

The Lakewood Invisalign system utilizes a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually shift the teeth into alignment instead of using brackets and bands. This option is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists making it the top alternative to traditional braces.

Invisalign is most effective when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues. For certain more complex cases, Invisalign may not be the best option. A free consultation with Brodsky Orthodontics will be able to help determine your eligibility for Invisalign.

Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and designed to fit snugly over the patient's teeth. The trays are nearly invisible and are typically changed out every 1-2 weeks for the next aligner in the series to keep the teeth moving in the right direction! Aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment in order for them to have the best results. If you don't wear your aligners as directed you might negatively impact your results, and make your orthodontic treatment process longer.
