Orthodontics for Adults

Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One out of every four patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21. Depending upon the degree of difficulty of each case, adults have a wide range of options available to them to straighten their teeth. The options include Invisalign, clear braces, mini braces and sometimes removable appliances.

Occasionally if an adult has not had orthodontic treatment they may have experienced some breakdown or loss of their teeth and bone that supports the teeth and may require periodontal treatment before, during and/or after orthodontic treatment. Bone loss can also limit the amount and direction of tooth movement that is advisable. On rare occasions jaw surgery may be necessary if the jaws have not grown in proper relationship to each other.
